KANCHHEPURAM the historical capital of Pallavas, I is one of the India's seven sacred cities. Kanchi has been a centre of Tamil learning and culture of centuries. It is the birth place of C.N. Annadurai, the former Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu. The city is well known for the weaving of finest silk sarees. The temples with unique architectural beauty bear testimony of its glorious Dravidian heritage.
Places of Tourist Interest : 
The Kamakshi Amman Temple :
is one of the three holy places of Sakthi Worship in India. The other two are in Madurai and Varanasi. It was built by Cholas during the 14th Century A.D.
The Ekambareswarar Temple :
was renovated by the Pallavas, the Cholas and the Vijayanagar kings. The 2500 years old mango tree inside the temple is the main attraction. The temple has 5 spacious corridors and a beautiful 1000 pillared hall.
The Vaikuntha Perumal Temple :
was built by the Pallava king Nandivarman in the 7th century A.D. numerous inscriptions relating to the wars between the Pallavas and the Cholas have been found in the temple. Lord Vishnu is depicted in sitting, standing and reclining positions.

Other places of interest are Kailasnathar Temple, the Varadarajar Temple, the Anna Memorial and the silk handlooms.
