Rameshwaram
Rameshwaram, a major pilgrim centre is located on Pamban island at the south eastern limit of the Indian peninsula. The island is connected to the main land by rail and road bridges. It is a holy place and according to the Hindu epic Ramayana, Sri Rama on his return from Sri Lanka, offered this thanks to Lord Siva here. Every Hindu hopes to visit Rameshwaram at least once in his lifetime.
Places of Tourist Interest : 
The Ramanathaswamy Temple :
The Ramanathaswamy Temple, close to the sea on the eastern side of the island, is known all over the world for its magnificent corridors with massive sculptured pillars lining it. The corridors is longest in India, covering a length of 1220 meters.
Agnitheertham :
is calm bay sacred to Hindus, who believe that a bath in these holy waters washes away one's sins. The sea is about 100 meters from the main entrance of the temple.
Gandamadana Parvatham :
is situated on the highest point in the island. Here the imprint of Lord Rama's feet is placed on a Chakra.
Kothandaramaswamy Temple :
is at the southernmost tip of the Dhanuskodi Island. The island was completely washed away in the 1964 cyclone, but the temple remained intact. It is believed that Vibishana, younger brother of Ravana, surrendered before Rama at this spot.
