History has it that the king of Garhwal expressed his gratitude to the british for liberating Garhwal from the Gorkhas, by giving away half of his kingdom. Consequently, Pauri Garhwal including today's Chamoli and Rudraprayag came to be called British Garhwal until India' independence in 1947. Tehri, at the meeting point of the rivers Bhagirathi and Bhilangna, became the new capital of Tehri Garhwal, Srinagar having been the old capital.

14kms away from Muni-ki-reti at an altitude of 1129mts lies the capital of the former king of Garhwal. Until a few years ago it was the head quarter of District Tehri Garhwal.

the sacred shrine atop a mountain attracts large number of devotees during the Ganga Dussehra Fair held between May & June. To reach the Shrine one has to trek for 2kms from Kaddulkhal, 22km from Chamba.

nagtibba at an altitude of 3048mts is a favourite destination for trcking and adventure sports. The thickly wooded region is noted for natural beauty. The view of lofty peaks Mussoorie, Doon Valley and surrounding areas is truly enchanting. Pantwari, the base camp can be reached by bus from Mussoorie or Vikas Nagar. From Pantwari one has to trek for 8kms amidst.
