TIRUCHCHIRAPPALLI or Trichy is situated on the banks of the river Kaveri. The city has been a Chola Citadel since the Sangam Age. The Pandyas and Pallavas also ruled over this region for short periods. The Nayaks and Madurai built the greater part of the town and the historical Rock Fort, the famous landmark of the city. Trichy is also known for the Ranganatha Temple as island on the river Kaveri. Today, TIRUCHCHIRAPPALLI ia a flourishing commercial city and a pilgrim centre.
Places of Tourist Interest : 
Rock Fort :
is a historical monument in the heart of the city. On the top is the Vinayak Temple which can be reached by climbing the 344 rock cut steps. Half way up is the Thayumanaswamy Temple which has a 100 pillared hall and a Vimana covered with Gold. Beneath the rock is the temple Tank.
Jambukeswara Temple :
Tiruvanaikkaval has the Sri Jambukeswara Temple dedicated to lord Siva. Jambu is the name of the holy tree and the legend says that an Elephant once worshipped the Siva Lingam (almost submerged in the spring water) under this Holy Tree.
Srirangam :
Srirangam is an island between the Kaveri River and its tributary Kolidam. Sri Ranganathaswamy Temple is one of the largest in South India. It was built around 13th - 14th century. The temple has 21 gopurams and is surrounded by seven concentric walls. The temple is known for beautiful carvings and painted walls and ceilings.
